6th Annual Kathy Pufahl
Container Design Competition
Tuesday July 21,
2009 (Registration materials for containers only.)
Cornell
University and New York State Flower Industries are pleased to announce the 6th
Annual Kathy Pufahl mixed container design competition, to be held July 21, 2009 in Ithaca, NY, in
conjunction with the Cornell
Floriculture Field Day. For
more information see next page or visit the Cornell website at www.greenhouse.cornell.edu .
Kathy was a staple on the educational
seminar circuit, spreading her container ideas far and wide.
It is her vision that
changed the way we look at the spring container business. Her influence
enhanced the art and
beauty of our garden designs for patios and porches across America.
This
is a design competition for planters containing mixed plants. A contestant may enter any or all
categories. Multiple entries are
encouraged!
There
are 4 classes of entry:
The
12- and 16-inch competition will be limited to living plant material only. The unlimited and gardener classes will
have no limits on what can or cannot be used. Be
imaginative! In all cases, a listing of the plants used must be
displayed with each entry.
The
containers may be grown and transported or assembled on the spot. Plants may be grown in fiber pots and
then inserted into decorative pots for the competition. Entries must be delivered to the
Bluegrass Lane site on Monday, July 20 from 3pm to 6 pm or on July 21 before 9 am. There is a covered area to
store the containers should the weather be inclement. Deliver all entries to the Bluegrass
Lane site. The map to Bluegrass Lane is available online: www.greenhouse.cornell.edu
Containers
will be graded on the following aspects:
Container
grading will be done on a blind basis with no names on the containers, by approximately 10 judges from the horticultural industry and Cornell
University.
Awards
will be announced and presented during the afternoon portion of the Field Day.
A press release will be sent to the
winner’s media of choice, as well as the industry press.
Individual
entries will be $25 per container.
All proceeds will go directly to IBD research at Mt. Sinai Hospital, to help
ensure a bright future for Kathy’s daughter and others like her, who have
Crohn’s disease. If you need more information regarding the Container
Design Competition, contact: Karen Hall, 716-941-3502 or mrskdhall@aol.com.
